Here are three fireworks displays in Kansas City, Kan., that we have heard about:
• The T-Bones have fireworks displays after the home games, which start at 7:05 p.m. July 3 and July 4 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan. For ticket information see www.tbonesbaseball.com.
• The Boulevard Drive-In Theatre, 1051 Merriam Lane, Kansas City, Kan., will have a fireworks display on July 4 before movies are shown. The fireworks display is expected to be around 9:10 p.m. The movies will start afterward. Movies to be shown include “Inside Out” and “Jurassic World.” Admission is $10 for adults and free for children accompanied by adults. • Lakeside Speedway, 5615 Wolcott Drive, Kansas City, Kan., plans a fireworks display on Friday, July 3. Tickets to the races are $12 for adults, $6 for children 7-12, and free for children ages 6 and younger when accompanied by an adult. Gates open at 5 p.m. Racing begins at 7:30 p.m. For more information, see http://lakesidespeedway.net/schedule/.
There will not be a fireworks display this year in Pierson Park in the Turner area because a company that formerly did the display is no longer doing them, according to UG sources. The event formerly was sponsored by the Turner Recreation Commission and the Unified Government.

For those who will shoot fireworks on the Fourth of July, a happy holiday depends on following some safety tips.
The Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department is offering these safety tips, in conjunction with the Heart of America Metro Fire Chiefs Council.
Fireworks may be sold from June 29 through July 4 in Kansas City, Kan., and fireworks may be discharged between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. from July 2 to 4.
• Purchase fireworks from reliable sources, never discharge homemade or illegal fireworks.
• Have a responsible adult in charge and never give fireworks to children.
• Prepare a safe environment outdoors for shooting off fireworks by selecting an area clear of other fireworks, combustible materials like dried wood or grass, buildings, and other people.
• Have water readily available such as a garden hose and a bucket of water.
• Always read and follow label directions for the safe discharge of fireworks. Fireworks users should wear tight clothing to avoid accidental contact with sparks and use eye protection when handling and lighting fireworks.
• Light fireworks one at a time and wait until it discharges, never attempt to re-light a device that did not discharge the first time it was lit.
• Do not throw or point fireworks at people or animals. Never shoot fireworks in metal or glass containers
• Dispose of spent fireworks properly when you are done by soaking them in water before putting them in a trash can,
The do’s and don’ts of burn care
If you get burned from fireworks, remember the do’s and don’ts of burn care. If the injury is severe, call 911 immediately for emergency medical care.
Do
• Cool a burn by flushing with water.
• Cover the burn with a dry, clean covering.
• Keep the victim comfortable and from becoming chilled or overheated.
Don’t
• Apply ice directly to any burn.
• Touch a burn with anything except a clean covering.
• Remove pieces of cloth that stick to the burned area.
• Break blisters or use any kind of ointment on a severe burn.
A spokesman for the Kansas City, Kan. Fire Department and the Heart of America Fire Chiefs Council said they wish all Greater Kansas City metropolitan residents a safe and happy Fourth of July.

Kansas City, Kan., police are investigating a homicide today on the south side of the city not far from the Missouri state line.
Police officers were called to the scene at 1:38 p.m. June 30 to check on a person inside a blue vehicle in the area of Francis Street and Bristow Avenue.
Officers found a woman in her 20s, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound, a police spokesman said.
The identity of the victim is being held until there is positive identification and family notification, police said.
Francis Street and Bristow Avenue intersect near Eaton Street in southeastern Kansas City, Kan., close to the state line. Rainbow Boulevard (U.S. 169) is to the west of it and Southwest Boulevard is to the northwest of it.
The incident is under investigation by the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, which is asking anyone with information to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
