Victim of homicide on Ridge identified

The victim of a homicide discovered at 2:34 a.m. May 30 in the 2500 block of Ridge Avenue has been identified.

The victim’s name is Jamie J. Hernandez-Zubia, 16, a resident of Kansas City, Kan., according to a police spokesman.

She was found in the street, dead from an apparent gunshot wound, police said. Police were responding to reports of a shooting at that location.

This incident remains under investigation by the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department’s Major Case Unit, which is encouraging anyone with information to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.

T-Bones lose two games Sunday

The T-Bones lost two games on Sunday to the Gary RailCats in Gary, Ind.

Gary won 3-2 in the first game, and 3-2 in the second game. The first game had been rained out on Saturday and was rescheduled Sunday.

Despite the two losses, it was a good day at the plate for the T-Bones’ Ryan Cavan. He hit a solo home run in the sixth inning of the first game.

Joe Van Meter was the losing pitcher in the first game, a seven-inning contest, giving up three runs and six hits. He walked one.

In the second game, Robby Kuzdale got a hit with two runners on base, scoring the lead run in the third inning.

Joe Rapp of the T-Bones hit a single that scored one run, tying the game in the sixth inning, 2-2.

Blake Holovach, starting pitcher, went 3.2 innings, allowing two runs and five hits. The losing pitcher was Jonathan Kountis, who pitched one inning, allowed one hit and one run. He walked two, including the lead-off player in the bottom of the sixth inning, who then scored on a double by the RailCats’ Adam Taylor.

With the RailCats series over, the T-Bones, 1-8, now travel to Sioux City for a game at 7:10 p.m. Monday against the Explorers.
