UG’s ARPA subcommittee scheduled to meet today

The Unified Government’s ARPA subcommittee is scheduled to meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, online.

The subcommittee will discuss the American Rescue Plan Act and nonprofit – UG services grants web portal; ARPA adopted allocations update; infrastructure, facilities and parks and recreation proposals; and opportunities ahead for grant submissions.

The public may access the meeting through Zoom or phone. Also, the public may view the meeting from the lobby of City Hall, 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kansas. The meeting will be online.

Icy glaze could affect today’s commute

Wyandotte County is under a winter weather advisory this morning until noon today, according to the National Weather Service.

The area has received some freezing drizzle, and additional ice accumulations of a light glaze are possible, according to the weather service.

Residents are advised to be aware that there could be slippery sidewalks, roads and bridges, which could affect the morning and evening commutes, the weather service said. Motorists were advised to slow down and use caution.

Temperatures plunged overnight, going from a high of 70 on Monday to a 20 degrees at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Subzero wind chills are expected tonight into Wednesday morning, according to the weather service.

Light snow, with minor accumulation, will be possible Wednesday night and Thursday, the weather service said.

Today, it will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 30, the weather service said. A northwest wind of 15 to 17 mph will gust as high as 26 mph.

Tonight, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 8, and wind chill values between minus 6 and 4. A north northwest wind of 11 to 15 mph will gust as high as 21 mph.

Wednesday, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 26, the weather service said. The wind chill will be between minus 6 and 4. A north wind of 9 to 11 mph will gust as high as 21 mph.

Wednesday night, there is a 30 percent chance of snow, with a low of 18, according to the weather service. A northeast wind of 8 mph will gust as high as 20 mph.

Thursday, there is a 50 percent chance of snow, with a high near 26. A north northeast wind of 8 to 11 mph will gust as high as 20 mph.

Thursday night, there is a 20 percent chance of snow before midnight, with a low of 10, according to the weather service.

Friday, it will be sunny, with a high near 29, the weather service said.

Friday night, it will be partly cloudy, with a low of 13, according to the weather service.

Saturday, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 41, the weather service said.

Saturday night, it will be partly cloudy, with a low of 24, according to the weather service.

More than 90 Wyandotte County students at KU named to honor roll

More than 90 students from Wyandotte County have been named to the honor roll for the fall semester at the University of Kansas.

Honor roll criteria vary among the university’s academic units, with some honoring the top 10 percent of enrolled students, others establishing a minimum grade point average, and others raising the minimum GPA for each year students are in school. Students must complete a minimum number of credit hours to be considered for the honor roll.
