KCK student recognized at honors convocation

Patricia Telhorst, Kansas City, Kansas, was recognized at Simpson College’s Honors Convocation ceremony on April 24.


Telhorst received the Doft Science Honor Award. The award recognizes those students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in the natural sciences.


Simpson College is in Indianola, Iowa, not far from Des Moines. Founded in 1860, the college has about 1,300 full-time undergraduate students and 400 part-time students.

Fairfax Industrial Association to meet June 13

The Fairfax Industrial Association will meet at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, June 13, at Central Solutions, 401 Funston Road, Kansas City, Kansas.

The guest speaker will be Monsignor Stuart Swetland, president of Donnelly College, who will discuss Donnelly College and its unique role in higher education in Wyandotte County and the metropolitan area.

Central Solutions is the host of the event, with EJ’s Urban Eatery sponsoring the lunch.

Blood drive taking place today

Frontier Justice is holding a Community Blood Center blood drive from 1 to 7 p.m. today, June 4, at 10000 France Family Drive, Kansas City, Kansas. The community is asked to donate blood to help replenish the blood supply, which is currently in a blood emergency.

The Kansas City, Kansas, store and another Frontier Justice location in Missouri are having a themed “Battle for Blood” in which donors may support either fire or law enforcement personnel with their donations.

Persons who donate blood today at the locations will receive a free range pass.
