Severe thunderstorm warning in effect

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for central Wyandotte County until 4 p.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

At 3:37 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over Bonner Springs, moving east at 30 mph, the weather service said.

The storm has 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail, the weather service said.

Hail damage to vehicles is expected, and also to roofs, siding and trees.

Bonner Springs, Edwardsville and Kansas City, Kansas, are listed in the path of the storm.

Residents in the path of the storm are asked to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of the building, the weather service said.

Fatal accident involving trucks reported in KCK

Kansas City, Kansas, police responded to a fatal accident on Friday night at 59th and K-32 in Kansas City, Kansas, according to a social media post by the police chief.

A semi trailer hauling a concrete beam was struck by another vehicle, according to the chief’s post. The driver of the striking vehicle died from his injuries, the chief stated.

Delaware ceremony planned June 1 at Wyandotte County Park
The Kansas Delaware Tribe’s annual meeting will take place on Saturday, June 1, at the George Meyn building at Wyandotte County Park, 126th and State Avenue, Bonner Springs. A day of activities is planned about the Delaware culture and heritage. A smoking ceremony will be held at 9 a.m., followed by cultural activities including drumming, finding ancestral roots with the original 26 Delaware members who stayed in Kansas rather than being removed to Indian Territory, recognizing tribal elder and tribal veteran, and studying the cultural meanings of dances and events.

Levee Fest to be June 1
The fourth annual Levee Fest will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 1, at 555 River Park Drive, at the Armourdale Levee trail, Kansas City, Kansas. There will be boat and bridge river tours at 9:30 a.m. A ribbon-cutting will take place for the trail extension. Family activities will be planned, and food trucks will be at the event. The annual summer reading kick-off will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 1, at the West Wyandotte Library, 1737 N. 82nd St., Kansas City, Kansas. There will be giveaways, face-painting, snow cones and an inflatable on the lawn. The free event is for all ages, including children and teens.

T-Bones play RailCats
