A sophomore from Schlagle High School by the name of Vivian Young really shined at a Friday afternoon performance with Kansas City AileyCamp, Friends of Alvin Ailey group. Vivian is the daughter of Angie Young.

She is on the Student Council and is a member of the National Honor Society. She started dancing when she was only 3 years of age and has been with the local AileyCamp, Friends of Alvin Ailey dance group, for just one year as one of the lead dancers.

A packed crowd of well over 250 people with movers and shakers such as Henry Bloch of H&R Block income tax service attended a recent gala event and performance Friday at Starlight Theater at Swope Park, Kansas City, Mo. Just to perform for this event is a high honor.

After the performance a lot of people came up to Vivian and thanked her for a job well done. One of the audience members came up to her and said, “I really enjoyed your performance, you are truly passionate.”

Tyrone Aiken, the choreographer and the executive officer for the local Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey dance group, said Vivian has lot of spark.

“At first when I met her she did not appear that way; however after I watched her dance I began to see the spark. She is one of our lead dancers. You can see she has the passion for dance. She is very dedicated as well,” he said.

After she graduates from high school, Vivian wants to go to New York and get a Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance, and she would like to dance with the Alvin Ailey group in New York City.

“Eventually I want to start my own dance group after I get more experience,” Vivian said.

The local Alvin Ailey dance group and Vivian got a standing ovation by members of the audience for a job well done.
