Turner Days to be Saturday and Sunday
The 32nd annual Turner Days festival, Oct. 8 and 9, features a parade and festival. The parade will start at 10 a.m. Saturday near Turner High School, near South 55th and Key Lane, and will travel on 55th to Inland Drive. Much of the festival takes place at Steineger Field, near 58th and Metropolitan, behind Turner Middle School. Hours of the festival will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. A 5K run will kick off events at 7:30 a.m. Saturday. A car show will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday on the upper parking lot at Turner Middle School. 5K run and health fair planned today in Bonner Springs
The Rock, Roll and Run 5K Walk-Run will be Saturday, Oct. 8, at 8:30 a.m. at the Providence Medical Center Amphitheatre, 633 N. 130th St., Bonner Springs, Kan. The 5K is followed by a Kids Run at 10 a.m., with a free Community Health Fair hosted by the hospital and YMCA featuring local bands from 8 a.m. to noon. Bishop Ward students to hold art fair today at Alcott Arts Center
Bishop Ward students will hold an art fair in a month-long celebration at the Alcott Arts Center, 180 S. 18th St., Kansas City, Kan., beginning this weekend. The opening celebration is at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, where a variety of works and talents will be performed by different school departments. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. followed by short performances from the Bishop Ward theater and music departments. Refreshments will be served and admittance is complimentary. The public is invited. ‘Rock the Vote’ voter registration event planned today
A voter registration event with music from the hit Broadway show “Hamilton” will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Kansas City, Kan., Main Public Library, 625 Minnesota Ave., in the auditorium. There will be a teen rap battle, as well as a discussion on voter responsibility and local political history. All ages are invited.
Children’s craft program planned
Children may make a simple Halloween craft to hold candy at a program from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Main Kansas City, Kan., Public Library, 625 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan. Bonner Springs church to hold community music festival today
The First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 148 N. Nettleton Ave., Bonner Springs, will hold a community music festival under a big tent from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8. Local musicians and groups will perform. There will be a bounce house, free hot dogs, chips and beverages. An old-fashioned worship service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, in the big tent.
Sporting KC awards to be presented Saturday
Sporting KC’s 2016 team awards will be presented at the club’s Pitch Black celebration on Saturday in Children’s Mercy Park, Kansas City, Kan. The event is open to Sporting KC supporters of all ages at a dinner and dance, along with the awards presentation, from 6:30 to 11 p.m. Tickets start at $285 and go up to $2,895. The event begins with a meet-and-greet of Sporting KC players and coaches. A silent auction will benefit the Victory Project.
