KCK police arrest homicide suspect

Kansas City, Kansas, police have arrested a suspect in relation to the Nov. 21 homicide of Loren Flores, 23, a resident.

Miguel Flores, 32, was arrested and charged in Wyandotte County, a police spokesman stated.

Flores, a resident of Kansas City, Kansas, is currently charged with first-degree murder by the Wyandotte County District Attorney’s office, according to the spokesman. He is currently being held in the Wyandotte County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

According to the spokesman, detectives said the couple were married but in the process of a divorce when he shot his estranged wife outside a residence. Flores then fled the scene, but was taken into custody a short time later by police, the spokesman stated.

Career Fair planned Wednesday at Brune School

The Kansas City, Kansas, Public Schools are holding a hiring event Wednesday for education, non-teaching jobs and for those who want to improve their career path.

The event will be from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, at Lowell Brune Elementary School, 2220 N. 89th Terrace, Kansas City, Kansas.

The district is hiring certified teachers, substitute teachers, food service employees, paraprofessionals, instructional teacher aides, bus drivers and others.

The work schedule for these positions will begin January 2023, or for the 2023- 2024 school year which begins in August 2023.

Attendees will be able to speak directly with department administrators and ask questions. The human resource team will be on-hand to assist with the online application process and will interview applicants on-site.

“Trends show that people review their career goals and evaluate new career opportunities during the months of December and January, and we hope to partner with those individuals seeking to advance their careers,” Cynthia Fulks, assistant director of recruitment and substitute staffing, said.

KCKPS is the largest school district in Wyandotte County and the fifth-largest school district in Kansas. The district serves over 21,000 students at more than 50 school sites.

Body found in September on Kaw Drive identified

A body discovered on Kaw Drive in September has been identified, according to a Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department spokesman.

The man who died was identified as Ottoniel Agustin-Chavez, 41, a resident of Kansas City, Missouri, the spokesman stated.

The body was discovered Sept. 15 in a wooded area in the 4200 block of Kaw Drive, according to the spokesman.

The case is being investigated as a homicide, based on autopsy results, the spokesman stated.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department Major Case Unit is investigating. Anyone with information on the case is urged to call the Crime Stoppers TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS, the spokesman stated. All tips are anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward, police stated.
