A hit-and-run accident was reported at 6:50 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, on westbound I-70 at Mill Street, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
An unknown vehicle made an unsafe lane change and struck the front of a Mazda 3, according to the trooper’s report.
The Mazda went right, then left, and struck the left median barrier wall, the trooper’s report stated. The unknown vehicle fled.
The driver of the Mazda, an 18-year-old male from Kansas City, Missouri, was taken to the hospital with a possible serious injury, the trooper’s report stated.
No description is available of the unknown vehicle.
Bitterly cold temperatures will continue into Friday morning, the National Weather Service said. The wind chill today will be between minus 9 and 1.
Very light snow fell in parts of the metro area overnight and this morning. Snow will be moving out of the forecast, tapering off by mid-morning, according to the weather service.
Little warmup in temperatures is expected today, with a high of 14 forecast in Wyandotte County, the weather service said.
