Suspect in 10th and Pacific homicide arrested and charged

A suspect in the Dec. 9 shooting death of Ali Alesani-Natvidad, 23, at 10th and Pacific Avenue has been arrested in Kansas City, Missouri, and charged in Wyandotte County.

According to a Kansas City, Kansas, police spokesman, Alvaro R. Lozano, 31, has been charged with first-degree murder and is currently being held in the Jackson County Jail on a $500,000 bond as he awaits extradition to Kansas.

Shelter KC seeks donations of practical items for homeless

Shelter KC, the Kansas City rescue mission, is seeking donations of practical gifts for the homeless.

Its annual celebration scheduled for Friday, Dec. 23, will distribute new shoes and socks with other practical gifts.

Shelter KC works with homeless adults and a holiday dinner will be served at the celebration.

The public is asked to help by giving adult toothbrushes, toothpaste, body wash, deodorant, lip balm, razors, body lotion, knit hats, scarves, gloves, socks and other items. There will be new shoes and socks distributed thanks to generous donors and Operation Care International.

Shelter KC also asks for personalized Christmas cards (signed only with donors first names), with a warm message that can touch the heart.

The Mission asks that donations be put into a gallon zip-lock bag or a plastic grocery bag and dropped off at 1520 Cherry St., Kansas City, Missouri. The bags should not contain anything perishable. Deadline for donations is end-of-day Dec. 19.

Shelter KC plans to distribute at least 600 gift bags in specially designed string bag backpacks at the Dec. 23 event.

Body found in September on Kaw Drive identified

A body discovered on Kaw Drive in September has been identified, according to a Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department spokesman.

The man who died was identified as Ottoniel Agustin-Chavez, 41, a resident of Kansas City, Missouri, the spokesman stated.

The body was discovered Sept. 15 in a wooded area in the 4200 block of Kaw Drive, according to the spokesman.

The case is being investigated as a homicide, based on autopsy results, the spokesman stated.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department Major Case Unit is investigating. Anyone with information on the case is urged to call the Crime Stoppers TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS, the spokesman stated. All tips are anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward, police stated.
