Free concert at Legends planned tonight

A free concert is planned tonight at the Legends Outlets, near I-70 and I-435 in Kansas City, Kansas.

The Live at the Legends concert will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday on the Legends Lawn. It is at the west end of the shopping center.

The Legends Outlets again is offering free outdoor entertainment through a summer music series.

Jillian Riscoe will be the guest performer on Friday, June 3.

Riscoe is a singer and songwriter who also plays the guitar. Her music is soulful rock and pop. Her work includes “Breaking Point / Creatures of Habit.”

Other Live at the Legends concerts are planned on Fridays throughout the summer.

Wyandotte County Fair to be July 12-16

The Wyandotte County Fair returns this year from July 12 to 16 at the fairgrounds, 13700 Polfer Road, Kansas City, Kansas.

Six sponsorship levels will be available to fair supporters this year, according to Bill Svoboda, executive director of the fair. So far, more than 20 area businesses already have signed up to be sponsors.

The organizers of the fair estimate about 40,000 people may attend the event.

“We are proud that the WYCO Fair showcases our diversity, creativity and strong commitment to industry,” Board President Jim Knetter said. “Our county is a fierce economic engine for the entire region. Businesses want and need a presence in Wyandotte County, and the WYCO Fair is the perfect place to secure that recognition.”

The Wyandotte County Fair still has spots available for food vendors and marketplace vendors. To secure a place at Wyandotte County’s oldest and most revered institutions go to the website: www.wycofair.com. Click on the Booth-Exhibitor tab, which will provide a link to sign up for a booth.

This year’s fair will feature two live music stages, and the entertainment lineup will be announced soon. Designed for the entire family, the fair will also feature a carnival, rodeo, games, fair food and 4-H livestock and exhibits.

The fair runs 5-11 p.m. July 12-14; 5-midnight July 15; and 2 p.m.-midnight July 16. Kids 12 and under are free. Adult admission is $5, and parking is $5 as well.

Traveling Vietnam Wall currently at National World War I Museum and Memorial

The American Veterans Traveling Tribute’s Vietnam Wall is on the southeast lawn of the National World War I Museum and Memorial today, Monday, May 30.

An 80 percent scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., the wall measures almost 400 feet long. The traveling wall contains every name etched on the original memorial.

The American Veterans Traveling Tribute also will display the “Cost of Freedom Tribute,” smaller tribute panels honoring American soldiers in conflicts through the 20th and 21st centuries, including World War I, World War II, 911, Afghanistan and Iraq.

Memorial Day ceremony

A Memorial Day ceremony will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, May 30, at the memorial courtyard.

The program will include remarks from dignitaries and a keynote address from Lt. Gen. Larry Jordan. The ceremony is free to the public.

Walk of Honor dedication

A Walk of Honor dedication and AVTT Vietnam Wall closing ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 30, in the Memorial courtyard.

New granite bricks will be dedicated during a special ceremony. This ceremony also is free to the public.

The museum and memorial will have discount admission for veterans for Memorial Day. Admission is free for veterans and active duty military personnel. General admission for the public is half-price on Memorial Day Weekend. The museum is at 2 Memorial Drive, Kansas City, Missouri.
