Driver falls asleep, crashes on I-435

An injury was reported when a driver fell asleep at 10:14 a.m. June 21 on northbound I-435 in Edwardsville, Kansas, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Two vehicles, a Dodge Charger and a Toyota Sienna, were northbound on I-435 when the Charger driver fell asleep, according to a trooper’s crash report. The Charger hit the rear of the Sienna, the report stated.

The driver of the Charger, a 23-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, man, was not injured, the report stated.

The driver of the Sienna, a 39-year-old woman from Overland Park, Kansas, was injured and taken to a hospital, the report stated.

A 60-year-old Overland Park, Kansas, woman and a 12-year-old Overland Park, Kansas, girl riding in the Sienna were not injured, according to the report.

Two Wyandotte County residents win cruises

Two Wyandotte County residents will be sailing the Caribbean in January after their names were drawn in Power Cruise second-chance drawings at the Kansas Lottery.

Susan Rezin of Kansas City, Kansas, won in the second of three Power Cruise second-chance drawings.

Sharon Gilbert of Edwardsville, Kansas, won in the first of three Power Cruise drawings on May 14.

The Kansas Lottery will hold one more drawing with five winners to bring the total number of Power Cruise winners to 15. The deadline for the third and final drawing is 11:59 p.m. June 11, with winners announced June 19.

To become eligible to win a Power Cruise grand prize, players must enter the drawings by submitting Powerball tickets through the Kansas Lottery PlayOn® Players Loyalty program. Eligible Powerball tickets can be winning or non-winning, but must be purchased between April 14 and 11:59 a.m. June 10, 2018.

The Kansas Lottery is one of 20-plus lotteries taking part in the Power Cruise promotion. The privately chartered Power Cruise will depart from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on a five-night cruise to Nassau and CocoCay, Bahamas. Lottery winners and guests from all over the country will enjoy a vacation onboard the Royal Caribbean’s Majesty of the Seas, setting sail in January 2019.

Eight Wyandotte County students named to dean’s list at Washburn

Washburn University has named eight Wyandotte County students to its dean’s list for the fall semester.

To qualify for the dean’s list, students earn a semester grade point average of 3.4 to 3.99.
