Several Wyandotte County students named to dean’s list at Washburn

Nine Wyandotte County students have been named to the spring dean’s list at Washburn University, Topeka, Kansas.

To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must be enrolled in 12 hours of graded credits and earn a semester grade point average of 3.4 to 3.99.

On the dean’s list from Wyandotte County:

  • Erinn Billups of Kansas City, Kansas;
  • Katie Carpenter of Bonner Springs;
  • Rachael Cook of Kansas City, Kansas;
  • Alexander Davis of Kansas City, Kansas;
  • Tanner Gracy of Kansas City, Kansas;
  • Ashley Perez Ramirez of Kansas City, Kansas;
  • Lindsey Price of Bonner Springs;
  • Ryanne Serrone-Brown of Kansas City, Kansas;
  • Emily Williams of Edwardsville.

Free fireworks event scheduled tonight at Pierson Park

Fireworks in the Park is scheduled for 9:45 p.m. Friday, July 1, at Pierson Park, 1800 S. 55th St., Kansas City, Kansas.

The fireworks show will be weather-permitting. It is open to the public. There is no admission charge.

This event is sponsored by the Turner Recreation Commission. Partners for the event are the Unified Government, Kansas City, Kansas, Fire Department and Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the website, when all the parking lots are full, the entrances to the park will be closed. Shelter 1 and Pierson Hall will be closed, while the other shelters will be open. There will be no parking on 55th Street. No alcohol or drugs will be allowed inside the park. No persons will be allowed within the safety perimeter for this event.

Traffic fatality reported in 4900 block of Shawnee Drive

A traffic fatality was reported Wednesday evening in the 4900 block of Shawnee Drive, according to a Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department spokesman.

Officers were dispatched to the location at around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, the spokesman stated. An all-terrain vehicle and sport utility vehicle were involved in the accident.

When officers arrived, they found an adult male driver of an all-terrain vehicle deceased, according to the spokesman. The passenger, an adult female, was taken to a hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, the spokesman stated.

The driver of a sport utility vehicle, an adult male, had minor injuries, police stated.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Traffic Division is investigating. Anyone with information on the case is urged to call the Crime Stoppers TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS, the spokesman stated.

All tips will remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward, according to police.
