Three Wyandotte County students initiated into honor society

Three Wyandotte Countians have been initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at the University of Kansas, Lawrence.

The students are Angela Jones, Bonner Springs; Riley Kaiser, Kansas City, Kansas; and Brian Ward, Kansas City, Kansas.

About 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni are initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year.

Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter.

The top 10 percent of seniors and the top 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees also may qualify. Faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction also may qualify.

Area offices closed for holidays

Some area offices will be closed on New Year’s Day, Jan. 1.

Unified Government offices will be closed on Jan. 1 for the New Year’s holiday.

The administrative offices of the Board of Public Utilities will be closed on Friday, Jan. 1.

New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, is a holiday for the state of Kansas, and also for the federal government.

It also is a holiday for the U.S. Postal Service.

Trash will not be collected at residential addresses in Kansas City, Kansas, on Friday, Jan. 1, because of the holiday, according to the Unified Government. Trash that is usually collected on Friday will be collected on Saturday, Jan. 2, this week.

KCK student inducted into honor society

Sophia Frick of Kansas City, Kansas, was recently initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.

Frick was initiated at Washburn University, Topeka. Phi Kappa Phi is an all-discipline collegiate honor society founded in 1897.

Frick attended Piper High School in Kansas City, Kansas.
