Kansas Guidebook authors to appear at program June 13

Marci Penner and WenDee Rowe of the Kansas Sampler Foundation, authors, will talk about exploring Kansas. Democratic breakfast to be Saturday, June 15

Guest speakers for the Wyandotte County Third Saturday Democratic Breakfast on June 15 will be State Rep. Kathy Wolfe Moore, D-36th Dist., and State Rep. Tom Burroughs, D-33rd Dist. Burroughs also is the Unified Government 2nd District at large commissioner. The breakfast will be at Las Islas Marias, 7516 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. The breakfast buffet will open at 8:15 a.m., and the program will start at 9 a.m. The breakfast is open to all Democrats. The cost of the buffet will be $10, with students and those on limited incomes, $6. Those who attend the program do not have to purchase a breakfast. Kids fishing derby to be June 22

A kids free fishing derby will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 22, at Big 11 Lake, 1060 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. Judging will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The derby is for ages 12 and younger. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third in age categories. Fishing poles will be given to the first children who arrive, while supplies last. There will be hot dogs, chips and a drink for children. The event is sponsored by the Unified Government Parks and Recreation Department.

‘One Book, Many Neighbors’ program scheduled June 25

Adult readers will visit neighboring libraries through the months of June and July to discuss short stories from the collection, “One World: A Global Anthology of Short Stories,” and will participate in programs related to those stories, collect stamps on a passport and win prizes at a wrap-up party at Cider Hill Family Orchard. The program began in Atchison and travels to Leavenworth, Lansing, Bonner Springs, Basehor, Linwood and Tonganoxie. The Bonner Springs program will be at 5:30 p.m. June 25 at 201 N. Two Wyandotte County students receive master’s degrees from Washburn

Two Wyandotte County students recently received master’s degrees at Washburn University, Topeka.

Levi Baker of Kansas City, Kansas, received a Master of Social Work degree.
Robert Smith of Bonner Springs received a Master of Criminal Justice degree.

Washburn University, Topeka, was founded in 1865 and currently has more than 7,000 students in more than 200 academic programs.
