Some area schools have closed today because of the ice storm warning.
The Kansas City, Kansas, Public Schools, Turner Public Schools, Piper Public Schools and Bonner Springs Public Schools are closed because of the weather today.
Kansas City Kansas Community College also has canceled school today, including day and evening classes and activities.
The Kansas City, Kansas, Public Libraries also are closed.
Matthew Taber of Bonner Springs, Kansas, was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Olivet Nazarene University, Bourbonnais, Illinois.
Students on the dean’s list are full-time and have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale for the semester.
Olivet Nazarene University is a Christian liberal arts university with seven locations, as well as other learning locations throughout the Midwest. There also is a location in Hong Kong.
Wrestlers from the seven Kaw Valley League high schools met on Saturday in Lansing to compete for the league championship. Bonner Springs won the team championship, followed by Turner in second, and Tonganoxie in third.
Turner junior Cameron Bates was recognized during the tournament for achieving his 100th career win, a fourth-round victory over Bonner Springs junior Dominick Jennings in the 195-pound weight class.
