Saturday will be opening day for the community quilt show at the Wyandotte County Museum, located in Wyandotte County Park at 126th and State Avenue, Bonner Springs.

More than 60 quilts from the community are on display this year, said David Hartman museum curator. Many of the quilts are handmade.

One quilt, he said, is over 100 years old and will be shown inside a case. Another is made from men’s ties, he said.

Another distinctive quilt has Polish eagles, and a different quilt is made from handkerchiefs. One is a quilt that shows different aspects of 4-H, according to Hartman.

“We’ve had a really good variety of them,” he said. “Some are full length and some are hanging in a case.”

There isn’t a theme to the show this year, he said, except they are from the community and represent different areas in the community.

The community quilt show is open during regular hours at the museum. On Saturday, Oct. 5, the hours will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The museum is now open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. It will not be open Sunday.

The Wyandotte County Museum is at 631 N. 126th St., Bonner Springs. For more information, call 913-573-5002.
