Meet artists, view art, enjoy refreshments on Downtown KCK Art Walk tonight

The Downtown KCK Third Friday Art Walk from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. tonight will include several stops to view art and meet artists.

Stops on the Art Walk Friday, July 16, will include the EPIC Arts Studio, the Hilltop Team Office, the Velvet Nova, Veritas Architecture + Design, the PAL, and the Merc Co-op.

The Downtown KCK Third Friday Art Walk is a free, family friendly event in downtown KCK and the Strawberry Hill neighborhood.

The community, local artists, popups and brick-and-mortar establishments share art exhibits, performances, food and experiences.

The EPIC Clay Studio, 609 N. 6th St., Kansas City, Kansas, will have a free, family friendly event with a wind chime project, yard games, a visual art exhibit, live performance and dessert.

At the Merc Co+Op at 5th and Minnesota, artist JT Daniels will meet the community. Daniels is installing a mural on the corner of the Merc Co+Op at 5th and Minnesota. The Merc is seeking a response from the community before the design process begins, see https://www.themerc.coop/mural.

There will be free ice cream, raffle prizes and activities for all ages at the café and classroom.

Outside the Merc, there will be two food trucks, El de los Phillys & Co. and Los Machetes, and a local performer to be announced.

Dee Wallace returning to KC area for event tonight

Actor Dee Wallace, a former Kansas City, Kansas, resident who attended Wyandotte High School and was a former teacher at Washington High School, is coming home to the Greater Kansas City area tonight to attend Crypticon – KC at the KCI Expo Center.

Perhaps best-known as E.T.’s Mom in the 1982 movie, “E.T.,” Wallace has new films in the works and also has her sixth book on healing coming out soon.

Wallace also appeared in the movies “Cujo,” “The Howling” and “Critters.”

Crypticon is a family event, all about horror. The event runs from 7:45 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Friday, July 16, at the KCI Expo Center, 11730 N. Ambassador Drive, Kansas City, Missouri.

Grinter Jamboree to be Wednesday

The Grinter Jamboree is returning on Wednesday night to the Grinter Barn at 1400 S. 78th St.

Live music from the MP3 Band will be from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A snack bar will open at 5:30 p.m. Sub sandwiches will be added to the snack bar this month.

There will be dancing.

Admission will be $7, with doors opening at 5 p.m. The event is a fundraiser for the Grinter Place Friends.
