‘American Story’ screening and discussion to be Nov. 4 at Main Library

The Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library will hold a screening of the documentary film “An American Story,” made possible by Humanities Kansas.

A discussion with filmmaker Lyle Gibson and cinematographer Jacquey Valentine will follow.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, in the Main library auditorium, 625 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kansas.

The film follows three women of different backgrounds and presents aspects of shared socio-cultural history through the lens of everyday people.

Gibson serves as the division chair of social sciences at Metropolitan Community College on the Penn Valley Campus in Kansas City, Missouri. He is the author of “Black Tie, White Tie” and produced a documentary based on his book.
