KCKCC men’s basketball clinches No. 3 seed in tournament

Baldwin Kansas – The KJCCC Division II Men’s Basketball Tournament seedings were announced on Friday night, and the KCKCC men’s basketball team earned the No. 3 seed.

The Blue Devils will face off against No. 6 seed Fort Scott Community College in the first round.

The Blue Devils enter the tournament with a 20-9 overall record and 11-3 mark in the KJCCC.


Allen County Community College earned the No. 1 overall seed after winning the conference regular season championship and will play host to No. 8 seed Hesston College.

Johnson County Community College is the No. 2 seed and will play host to No. 7 seed Hesston, while Highland Community College (4) will play host to Neosho County Community College (5).

The Blue Devils will look for their third win of the season against Fort Scott Community College after taking both meetings during the regular season. KCKCC defeated Fort Scott 81-45 on Feb. 1 and 73-63 on Wednesday.

Bradley Lightbourne (12.4), Bryce Johnson (10.4) and Caleb Jones (10.0) are the team’s top three scorers. Freddy Reeves Jr. leads the Greyhounds with 15.8 points per game.

Tipoff between the Blue Devils and Greyhounds is set for Monday at 7:30 p.m. inside the KCKCC Fieldhouse.

Baldwin, Kansas – The KJCCC Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament seedings were announced on Friday night, and the KCKCC women’s basketball team clinched one of the top four seeds, earning the No. 4 spot.

The Blue Devils will take on Neosho County Community College, which earned the No. 5 seed after falling to Labette Community College.

The Blue Devils enter the tournament with a 15-12 overall record and 7-7 mark in the conference.


Johnson County Community College earned the No. 1 overall seed after winning the KJCCC regular season championship, while Labette is the No. 2 seed.

Highland Community College enters the tournament as the No. 3 seed and will be the host to No. 6 seed Allen Community College. Fort Scott Community College is the No. 7 seed and Hesston College is No. 8.

KCKCC and Neosho County split the regular season series this season, as the Blue Devils took down the Panthers at home 84-78 on Jan. 26. Neosho earned the win on their home court on Feb. 16, 86-79.


Faith Putz and De’Jaria Guillory are the two leading scorers for the Blue Devils with 10.8 and 10.4 points. Sarah Hunt leads Neosho with 13.6 points per game.

The Blue Devils and Panthers will square off on Monday inside the KCKCC Fieldhouse at 5:30 p.m.

Fatal accident reported at Kaw Drive and Swartz Road

A fatal accident was reported at about 5 p.m. Feb. 25 at Kaw Drive and Swartz Road, according to a Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department spokesman.

After receiving a call from dispatchers, KCK officers discovered the driver of one vehicle was deceased, according to the spokesman. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and passenger of a second vehicle were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the spokesman stated.

The incident is under investigation by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Traffic Division.
