Accident reported on I-70

An accident was reported at 9:08 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, on westbound I-70 near K-7, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report.

A Nissan Altima was in the inside lane when it lost control, entered the north ditch, and struck an overhead sign, the trooper’s report stated.

The driver, a 46-year-old woman from Waterbury, Connecticut, had a possible minor injury and was taken to a hospital, the report stated.

Fatal accident reported on I-435

A 20-year-old Platte City, Missouri, man was killed in an accident with a KDOT plow truck at 1:55 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, on southbound I-435, south of Leavenworth Road, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report.

The trooper’s report stated that Ernesto Lopez of Platte Cit lost his life in the crash.

For an unknown reason, the Chrysler Town and Country driven by Lopez rear-ended the KDOT plow truck at highway speeds or greater, according to the trooper’s report.

The KDOT plow truck had its warning lights activated, the trooper’s report stated.

The driver of the KDOT truck, a 59-year-old Edwardsville, Kansas, man, had a possible minor injury, the trooper’s report stated.
