The 61st annual Greater Kansas City Mayors’ Prayer Breakfast will be at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, at the Kansas City Convention Center Grand Ballroom, Kansas City, Missouri. The guest speaker will be Tammie Jo Shults, who was in the national spotlight on April 17, 2018, when she landed a Southwest Boeing 737 after an engine exploded at high altitude, damaging the aircraft and causing depressurization and multiple system failures. One hundred forty-eight lives were saved. Shults’ book about her experience is “Nerves of Steel: How I Followed My Dreams, Earned My Wings and Faced My Greatest Challenge.” Shults, a former Navy pilot and instructor who was one of the first women naval aviators to qualify in the F/A-18 Hornet, is a graduate of Mid-America Nazarene University, Olathe, Kansas. Bonner Springs police arrest assault suspects

Bonner Springs police arrested suspects in an aggravated assault case on Friday night.

The suspects’ vehicle entered Bonner Springs on Kaw Drive, according to a news release from the Bonner Springs Police Department.

After receiving information that an aggravated assault involving a firearm occurred in Kansas City, Kansas, just east of Edwardsville, officers from the Bonner Springs Police Department initiated a vehicle pursuit after the suspect’s vehicle failed to stop for officers.

The suspects left their vehicle at the entrance to Lake of the Forest and ran on foot, according to police.

Officers and a police canine tracked and apprehended a 38-year-old man who was the driver of the vehicle. The driver was injured from being bitten and held by the dog, police stated.

The passenger in the vehicle, a 22-year-old male, was found hiding in the area with a handgun, according to police.

The passenger was a convicted felon who was prohibited from possessing handguns, according to police.

The suspects were taken to the Wyandotte County Jail.

Three injured in I-435 accident

Three persons were injured in an accident Friday night on southbound I-435 between Parallel and State Avenue. (KC Scout photo)

Three persons were injured in an accident at 9:36 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, on southbound I-435 at Parallel, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report.

A Lexus IS 350 and a Chevrolet Silverado were southbound on I-435 when the Lexus struck the rear of the Silverado, the trooper’s report stated.

The Silverado left the road to the west and overturned in the ditch, the report stated.

The Lexus left the road to the east and struck the guardrail in the center median. Then the Lexus continued on, crossing the northbound lanes of I-435, and entered the east ditch before coming to a rest, the trooper’s report stated.

According to the trooper’s report, the driver of the Lexus left the scene of the accident on foot and had not been located.

The driver of the Silverado, a 37-year-old woman from Kansas City, Kansas, had a possible injury and was taken to a hospital, the report stated.

A 38-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, man in the Silverado also had a possible injury and was taken to the hospital, according to the report.

An 8-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, boy also had a possible injury and was taken to a hospital, according to the trooper’s report.
