Westbound I-70 has been closed at Goodland, Kansas, because of winter weather conditions in Colorado, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.

Motorists traveling west are advised to use alternate routes or delay travel if possible, a KDOT spokesman stated.

Additional closures may be necessary if conditions worsen, according to KDOT.

Victim of homicide on South 47th Terrace identified

The victim of Saturday’s homicide in the 1100 block of South 47th Terrace has been identified, according to a police spokesman.

Tobias Hernandez, 42, was a resident of Kansas City, Kansas, the police spokesman stated.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department is investigating this incident, the spokesman stated.

Temperatures go back to the freezer today

Temperatures on Tuesday are much cooler than Monday’s high of 54.

On Tuesday morning at 9 a.m., the high was 13 in Wyandotte County with a wind chill of 2, according to the National Weather Service.

Tuesday’s high is expected to reach 25, the weather service said.

Temperatures will remain below freezing while warming again toward the end of the week, according to the weather service.

Wind chills are expected to be around 5 to 10 below on Wednesday morning, the weather service said.

Don’t expect temperatures to go very high on Wednesday, according to forecasters. They may climb to about 33 here, but the 5 to 10 mph southerly winds will probably contribute to daily maximum wind chill readings in the 15 to 25 degree range. While Wednesday starts the warming trend, it won’t get that far until Thursday.

Thursday, the high returns to the 40s, then on Saturday, the high may be 46, the weather service said.

Today, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 25, and a north northeast wind of 8 to 10 mph, the weather service said.

Tonight, it will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming clear, with a low of 10, according to the weather service. A north wind of 5 to 8 mph will become light and variable after midnight.

Wednesday, it will be sunny, with a high near 33, the weather service said. A light and variable wind will become south 5 to 9 mph in the morning.

Wednesday night, there will be increasing clouds, with a low of 28, according to the weather service. A south southwest wind of 8 to 10 mph will gust as high as 20 mph.

Thursday, it will be partly sunny, with a high near 41, the weather service said. A southwest wind of 8 to 10 mph will become north northwest in the afternoon, with winds gusting up to 18 mph.

Thursday night, it will be partly cloudy, with a low of 19, according to the weather service.
