Monarchs planning ‘Dotte Proud’ night Friday

The Kansas City Monarchs, after a rainout on Thursday night, are planning a “Dotte Proud” night at 7 p.m. Friday, July 16.

The Monarchs will play the Kane County Cougars at 7 p.m.

The Houston Apollos and Monarchs will make up the rained-out game at a date still to be determined.

It will be the first trip ever for the Kane County Cougars to Legends Field in Kansas City, Kansas. Gates will open at 6 p.m.

There will be pre-game skydivers, and the first 1,000 fans in the gate will get a free “Dotte Proud” t-shirt.

COVID-19 vaccines will be available at the Monarchs baseball game at 5:30 p.m. Friday, July 16, at Legends Field. Those vaccinated will receive a gift and be eligible to enter a raffle to win a 20-person suite at a future baseball game.

If fans purchased tickets for Thursday’s game, they can be exchanged for Friday’s game or for any future 2021 regular season home game. To exchange tickets, fans can either call the Box Office Friday after 10 a.m. at 913-328-5618 or exchange them in person at the Box Office. For fans holding tickets for Wednesday night, those tickets are good for both games.

The game can be heard on the Monarchs Broadcast Network with the pre-game beginning at 6:35 p.m. and the video stream airing on aabaseball.tv.

Dee Wallace returning to KC area for event tonight

Actor Dee Wallace, a former Kansas City, Kansas, resident who attended Wyandotte High School and was a former teacher at Washington High School, is coming home to the Greater Kansas City area tonight to attend Crypticon – KC at the KCI Expo Center.

Perhaps best-known as E.T.’s Mom in the 1982 movie, “E.T.,” Wallace has new films in the works and also has her sixth book on healing coming out soon.

Wallace also appeared in the movies “Cujo,” “The Howling” and “Critters.”

Crypticon is a family event, all about horror. The event runs from 7:45 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Friday, July 16, at the KCI Expo Center, 11730 N. Ambassador Drive, Kansas City, Missouri.

Tonight, it will be partly cloudy with a low of 69, according to the weather service. A northeast wind around 5 mph will become calm in the evening.

Saturday, it will be partly sunny, with a high near 85 and an east northeast wind of 3 to 6 mph, the weather service said.

Saturday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 67, and an east northeast wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight, according to the weather service.

Sunday, there is a 20 percent chance of showers after 1 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 84 with a calm wind becoming east northeast around 6 mph in the afternoon.
