Washburn announces spring graduates

Six students from Wyandotte County are in the spring graduating class at Washburn University, Topeka.

The graduates include:

Madeline Potvin, Kansas City, Kansas, Associate of Science in Surgical Technology.
Jacob Groover, Bonner Springs, with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Technology Administration.
Cornelius Ruff, Kansas City, Kansas, Bachelor of Arts in Communication.
Sandra Velazquez, Kansas City, Kansas, Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.
Grayce Beery, Kansas City, Kansas, Bachelor of Health Science in Medical Imaging.

Victim at Turner boat access identified

The victim of a homicide discovered on Saturday at the Turner boat access has been identified, according to the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

The victim was Serberthia Bassett, 64, a resident of Kansas City, Kansas, the spokesman stated.

At about 6:49 a.m. Saturday, June 12, a patron at the Turner boat access called 911 and stated there was a body lying on the ground near the boat ramp, according to the spokesman. The boat ramp is near 59th Street Lane and the Kansas River.

Kansas City, Kansas, police officers and Wyandotte County Sheriff’s officers arrived and found a female in her mid-60s deceased from an apparent homicide, according to the spokesman. The Sheriff’s Office is conducting the investigation.

Homicide reported in 3100 block of Kimball

A homicide was reported on Monday morning in the 3100 block of Kimball Avenue, according to a police spokesman.

Officers were dispatched on a shooting call about 7:13 a.m. Monday. When they arrived, they found a deceased male in his mid-40s inside a vehicle, the victim of an apparent shooting, the police spokesman stated.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Major Case Unit is investigating. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS, the spokesman stated.
