KCK school board to meet Tuesday night

The Kansas City, Kansas, Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 22.

Several items are on the agenda for the regular meeting.

A budget overview will be presented by Dennis Covington, chief financial officer.

There also will be a public hearing for the 2020-2021 republished school district budget.

The board will consider a program with the United Way and Turn the Page to slow student absenteeism, along with several other proposed programs on the agenda.

UG committees to meet tonight

Two Unified Government committees will meet tonight in a virtual meeting.

The Public Works and Safety Committee will meet at 5 p.m. Monday, June 21 to discuss three topics: an application by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department for a federal grant of $369,335 for the victim services unit; a presentation of an expansion proposal by the animal shelter; and a proposed transfer of property agreement between the Mid-America Regional Council Local Emergency Planning Committee and the Kansas City, Kansas, Fire Department, for equipment for the Fire Department’s HazMat unit.

The Administration and Human Service Committee will follow. On the agenda for the AHS meeting is consideration of reducing the coin-operated amusement license fee to $25 annually per device, from the current fee of $75 per device.

Cooler weather, showers possible today

A cold front moving through the region has resulted in lingering showers and cooler temperatures today, according to the National Weather Service.

Monday is the first full day of summer. Today’s high will be near 77 with a chance of showers, mainly in the morning, the weather service said.

The best chance of showers will be south of I-70, and less than a tenth of an inch of rain is in the forecast, according to the weather service.

Tonight’s low will be around 56, the weather service said.

Temperatures will rise to the upper 80s to nearly 90 degrees by midweek, according to the weather service.

Today, there is a 50 percent chance of showers, mainly before noon, with a high near 77 and a north wind of 8 to 10 mph, the weather service said. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is in the forecast.

Tonight, it will be clear, with a low of 56 and a north wind of 5 to 7 mph becoming light and variable, according to the weather service.

Tuesday, it will be sunny with a high near 83 and a south southwest wind of 6 to 13 mph, the weather service said.

Tuesday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 63 and a south wind of 8 to 10 mph, according to the weather service.

Wednesday, it will be sunny, with a high near 87 and a south wind of 8 to 14 mph, gusting as high as 23 mph, the weather service said.

Wednesday night, there is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m., with a low of 74, according to the weather service.

Thursday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m., with a high near 93, the weather service said.

Thursday night, there is a 70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a low of 73, according to the weather service.

Friday, there is a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 89.

Friday night, there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a low of 68, according to the weather service.

Saturday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a high near 81, the weather service said.

Saturday night, it will be partly cloudy, with a low of 62, according to the weather service.

Sunday, it will be sunny, with a high near 84, the weather service said.
