State legislative candidates to speak at Democratic group meeting Saturday

State legislative candidates will speak at the Wyandotte County Democratic Breakfast Zoom meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19.

Among those who may speak at the meeting are Jeff Pittman, a Democratic candidate running for the State Senate, Fifth District, and Rep. Stan Frownfelter, D-37th Dist., an incumbent who is running as a write-in candidate in the general election.

Other Democratic state legislators in Wyandotte County also may speak.

Also, the group expects to hear from the campaigns of Rep. Sharice Davids, D-3rd Dist., and Barbara Bollier for U.S. Senate.

Produce distribution taking place today

A fresh produce distribution is taking place today in select schools in the Kansas City, Kansas, Public Schools district.

Fresh produce is being distributed from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at six locations: Harmon High School, Schlagle High School, Arrowhead Middle School, Carl Bruce Middle School, Rosedale Middle School and Banneker Elementary School.

The high will be in the mid-70s today through Sunday, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

A cold front moved into the area early this morning, with high temperatures dropping from the 80s into the 70s, the weather service said. On Tuesday, the day that fall begins, high temperatures could rise into the 80s again.

Light winds from the north have brought drier air into the area, according to the weather service, and wind speeds will be around 9 mph today, helping to lift the fog in some areas this morning.
