Sporting KC resumes team training Monday

Sporting Kansas City announced today that the club has received approval from Major League Soccer to resume full team training this Monday, June 8, at Compass Minerals National Performance Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

Sporting’s full team training plans were reviewed and approved by the club’s medical staff and local infectious disease experts prior to receiving MLS approval. Full team training will be mandatory for all players as Sporting takes the next step toward a return to match play this summer.

The full team training protocol set by MLS prohibits media access to Compass Minerals National Performance Center and requires all players and essential staff to undergo regular testing for COVID-19.

The 2020 MLS season has been suspended since March 12 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sporting players returned to Compass Minerals National Performance Center on May 6 for voluntary individual workouts and began voluntary small group training last week.

MLS and the MLS Players Association completed a new collective bargaining agreement last Wednesday. The new CBA will run through 2025 and includes agreement on a plan to resume the 2020 campaign this summer. Full details of Major League Soccer’s return to play are expected to be announced in the coming days
