Overlay and bridge work on I-635 to begin Monday

Overlay and bridge work projects on I-635 in Wyandotte County will begin, Monday, June 15, weather permitting, according to a spokesman for the Kansas Department of Transportation..

Work will occur from Foster Drive, north to the K-5 exit. The project is expected to be completed in mid-December, according to KDOT.

Bridge work projects include mill, patch and overlay on the I-635 bridge over 43rd Street and joint repair work on the I-635 bridge over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railyard, located between Kansas Avenue and Swartz Road.

Work will occur from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, and Saturdays as needed, according to the spokesman.

The overlay project on northbound and southbound I-635 will start with pothole patching at the south end and move north. Work will occur from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday to Friday and 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The eastbound State Avenue to northbound 635 ramp will be closed to September. The westbound State Avenue to northbound 635 ramp will be closed for the duration of the project.

Traffic will be controlled with intermittent lane closures, flashing arrow boards, traffic cones and signs, according to the spokesman. Motorists should expect travel delays.

Superior Bowen of Kansas City, Missouri, is the contractor on the $12.6 million projects.

The KDOT spokesman urged all motorists to be alert and obey the warning signs when approaching and driving through a highway work zone. Burglary reported on Washington Boulevard

Burglary and theft was reported at 5:25 p.m. June 13 in the 700 block of Washington Boulevard, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

A suspect entered the victim’s vehicle and started to drive off with it, according to the report.

The victim confronted the suspect, and the suspect stopped, the report stated. The suspect later was taken into custody, according to the report.

Burglary reported on Parallel

A victim stated a suspect kicked in the door and was confronted by the victim at 6:21 p.m. June 13 in the 1900 block of Parallel Avenue, according to a social media report by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

A struggle took place, and the suspect made threats to another victim, the report stated. The suspect was later taken into custody, the report stated.

Forgery reported

A suspect opened a credit card account using the victim’s information, according to a social media account by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

It took place at 7:11 p.m. June 13 in the 10900 block of Stadium Parkway, according to the report.

Fatal accident reported at 10th and Parallel

A fatal accident was reported at 12:15 a.m. Sunday, June 14, at 10th and Parallel Parkway, according to a spokesman for the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

One person, the driver of the sedan, died in the accident, police stated.

A four-door sedan occupied by three adults and two juveniles was crossing Parallel Parkway northbound at 10th Street when it was struck by a sport utility vehicle occupied by two adults that was traveling eastbound on Parallel Parkway, the spokesman stated.

Three adults and two juveniles had to be taken to hospitals, the spokesman stated.

The driver of the SUV fled on foot, police stated.
