BPU to meet Wednesday

The Board of Public Utilities will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, in a remote Zoom meeting.

On the agenda is a visitors’ time, a COVID-19 update and CARES Act update, the May 2020 financial report, the water quality report, a Unified Government proposed budget report, miscellaneous comments and board comments.

The BPU has closed all facilities to the public until further notice.

The BPU meeting on July 1 will be on the telephone and the internet.

The public may access the meeting through the telephone to listen in, and if they have access to the internet, they may click on Zoom meeting.

Police and fire notes

Kitchen fire reported in apartments


A fire was reported Tuesday morning, June 30, at apartments at 5725 Leavenworth Road, Kansas City, Kansas, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Fire Department. Heavy smoke was seen in the hallways. Crews found a fire in the kitchen area, according to the post. No occupants were found inside the apartment. The cause and origin of the fire is undetermined, according to the Fire Department.

Domestic battery reported

Aggravated domestic battery was reported at 9:05 a.m. June 29 according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department. During an argument, the suspect tried to strangle the victim. The suspect fled before officers arrived, the report stated. The victim did not have serious injuries.

Heat index may rise to 101 today

It’s hot in the Dotte as temperatures may reach 91 with a heat index of 101, according to today’s forecast from the National Weather Service.

Temperatures will be over 90 every day this week, according to the forecast.

Thunderstorms are possible tonight after 1 a.m., the weather service said.

On Wednesday night, there is another chance of showers and storms, according to the weather service.

Today, it will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 91, the weather service said. The heat index could reach 101. A south wind of 11 to 13 mph may gust as high as 22 mph.

Tonight, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 75 with a south southeast wind of 8 to 11 mph, gusting as high as 18 mph. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is in the forecast.

Wednesday, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 94, the weather service said. The heat index could reach 103. A southeast wind of 5 to 9 mph may gust as high as 18 mph.
