Area restaurants donating meals to those on frontlines

Some area restaurants are helping first responders and health care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

McDonald’s and Domino’s are among the local restaurants helping frontline workers.

McDonalds has been giving a free “thank you meal” to first responders and health care workers through carryout and drive-through at McDonald’s locations. They can receive one meal per person per day through May 5.

Individuals who show a work badge from frontline health care and first responders can receive a breakfast, lunch or dinner at McDonald’s. They will choose from an Egg McMuffin, Chicken McGriddle, Bacon, Egg and Cheese Biscuit, and from a Double Cheeseburger, 6-Piece McNuggets or Filet-O-Fish, and drinks are included.

Domino’s, including the restaurant in Kansas City, Kansas, is donating pizzas to essential organizations such as hospitals, medical offices, health departments and grocery stores, on Wednesday, May 6, according to an announcement from the company.

The company expected to donate 13,000 pizzas in Greater Kansas City, Topeka, Wichita and St. Joseph, Missouri.

Domino’s also is looking to hire customer service representatives, delivery drivers and managers throughout the same area, according to the company; for information, visit jobs.dominos.com.

Nationwide, Domino’s expects to donate 1.2 million pizzas across their communities.

House fire under investigation

A house fire at 1836 Yecker Ave. on Friday morning is under investigation.

Fire crews reported that they saw smoke coming from the basement about 7:07 a.m. Friday, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Fire Department.

All occupants got out of the house and there were no injuries reported, according to the Fire Department.

The cause of the fire was undetermined, according to the Fire Department.
