Weather: High in mid-60s today

Temperatures will reach the mid-60s today, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Quiet weather is expected for most of the work week, until Thursday night. Then several days of rain are possible, the weather service said.

Temperatures will warm into the upper 70s to lower 80s the latter half of the week, according to the weather service.

Shower and thunderstorm chances will increase by late Thursday into Friday, the weather service said.

Today, it will be mostly cloudy with a high near 65, the weather service said. A north northwest wind of 13 mph will gust as high as 22 mph.

Tonight, it will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 53, and a north wind of 6 to 10 mph, according to the weather service.

Tuesday, it will be partly sunny, with a high near 72 and a north wind of 8 mph, the weather service said.

Tuesday night, it will be partly cloudy, with a low of 58 and a north northeast wind of 6 mph becoming calm in the evening, according to the weather service.

Wednesday, it will be partly sunny, with a high near 73 and a calm wind becoming east northeast around 6 mph in the morning, the weather service said.

Wednesday night, it will be partly cloudy, with a low of 59, according to the weather service.

Thursday, it will be partly sunny, with a high near 78, the weather service said.

Thursday night, there is a 40 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms after 1 a.m., with a low of 62, according to the weather service.

Friday, there is a 50 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms, with a high near 82, the weather service said.

Little change in Sunday’s COVID-19 case numbers in Wyandotte County

New COVID-19 cases increased by one from Saturday at 1:50 p.m. to Sunday at 1:50 p.m., according to the Unified Government COVID-19 webpage. (From UG COVID-19 webpage)

Total cases increased to 1,153, and total deaths were 70 in Wyandotte County on Sunday. There were 34 more recoveries for a total of 340.

Total COVID-19 cases increased by one, according to the Unified Government’s COVID-19 webpage.

Cases were 1,154 at 1:50 p.m. Sunday as compared to 1,153 at 1:50 p.m. Saturday. There were no new deaths, and total deaths stayed at 70, according to the COVID-19 webpage. Hospitalizations were listed as the same, at 30.

Recoveries were up by 15 on Sunday, and probable cases increased by three.

Testing continues at several locations Monday in Wyandotte County

According to the UG’s COVID-19 hub, testing locations for COVID-19 include:

• 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the UG Health Department parking lot, 619 Ann Ave., Kansas City, Kansas.

• 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at Swope Health, 21 N. 12th St., Suite 400, Kansas City, Kansas. Call 816-923-5800 to schedule an appointment.

Several pop-up testing sites are planned this week. Wyandotte County residents may call 913-371-9298 to register for a test.

• 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, KC Community Church, 5901 Leavenworth Road, Kansas City, Kansas.

• 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, May 21, Holy Name of Jesus Church, 1007 Southwest Blvd., Kansas City, Kansas, through Swope;

• 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 21, Veritiv, 2552 S. 98th St., Edwardsville, Kansas.

Police investigating death on South 72nd

Kansas City, Kansas, police are investigating a death in the 800 block of South 72nd Street.

Police were called about a body in a creek at about 11:25 a.m. Sunday, May 17, according to a police spokesman.

Officers arrived at the location and found a deceased male, of unknown age, in a nearby creek bed, the spokesman stated.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Detective Division is investigating.
