UG Commission to meet in special session Thursday

The Unified Government Commission will meet in a special session at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 23, to discuss the 2021-2025 Capital Maintenance Improvement Projects.

The public will be able to observe or listen to the meeting live on YouTube or UGTV, or through ZOOM, according to the agenda. UGTV is carried on Google TV at Channel 141 and Spectrum Cable Channel 2. The public also may listen to the meeting on the telephone.

Police investigate shooting death on Walker

Kansas City, Kansas, police are investigating a homicide at 11:19 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, in the 1800 block of Walker Avenue.

According to a police spokesman, police responded to a call reporting shots fired at the location, and when they arrived, found a man in his 40s, inside a residence, deceased with an apparent gunshot wound.

No suspect has been taken into custody, the spokesman stated.

The Criminal Investigation Bureau is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.

Silver Alert canceled

The Tonganoxie Police Department reported that late this morning, April 21, a 72-year-old missing man returned to Tonganoxie. He is safe, police said.

The statewide Silver Alert was canceled.
