House fire reported on South 12th Terrace

A two-story house fire was reported on Tuesday, Sept. 24, in the 2400 block of South 12th Terrace.

According to a spokesman for the Kansas City, Kansas, Fire Department, heavy smoke was coming from the side of the structure.

Crews made a quick attack, knocked the fire down, and there were no injuries to firefighters and residents, according to the spokesman.

The cause and estimated damage are unknown at this time, according to the spokesman.

HazMat crews respond to chemical leak

Kansas City, Kansas, HazMat crews responded to a chemical leak on Tuesday, Sept. 24, from a business in the 2400 block of Merriam in Kansas City, Kansas.

According to a Kansas City, Kansas, Fire Department spokesman, crews that were called to analyze the substance found out it was a fertilizer leakage that posed no threat to the community.

About 500 gallons of the substance leaked out.

Crews were able to wash the leakage down the drain, according to the spokesman.

KCKCC to hold Board of Trustee candidate forum today

Kansas City Kansas Community College is holding a KCKCC Board of Trustee Candidate Forum from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, in Upper Jewell on the KCKCC main campus, 7250 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas.

The event is open to the public. The general election is Nov. 5.

Candidates on the ballot are Don Ash (incumbent), Rosalyn Brown (incumbent), Patricia Brune, Ray Daniels (incumbent), Jammie Johnson and Paul Jones.

Four at-large positions are open and terms are for four years. Each candidate will be given three minutes for an introductory statement regarding who they are and why they want to be a KCKCC Board of Trustees member.

Following the candidate introductions, those attending will have the opportunity to visit with each individual candidate to ask questions and learn more about their vision for KCKCC and their motivation for seeking election.
