Vehicle overturns on I-70 ramp

A Chevrolet Malibu overturned at 7:47 a.m. Monday, July 8, on the westbound I-70 ramp to northbound I-435 in Wyandotte County, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

According to the trooper’s report, there was a minor injury, a hit-and-run and a police pursuit involved in the case.

The Malibu was westbound when the driver began to exit to northbound I-435, according to the trooper’s report. The driver realized she did not want to go that way and re-entered westbound I-70, the trooper’s report stated.

Then the Malibu immediately struck the side of a Ford Focus, causing the Malibu and Focus to drive east of the roadway, and the Malibu overturned, the trooper’s report stated.

The driver of the Malibu, a 31-year-old woman from Independence, Missouri, had a possible minor injury, the trooper’s report stated.

The driver of the Focus, a 24-year-old woman from Kansas City, Missouri, was not injured, according to the report.

Donors at blood drives on Wednesday to receive tickets to Royals game

Two Community Blood Center mobile blood drives are scheduled on Wednesday, July 10, that are included in a promotion to receive two free tickets to a Kansas City Royals game.

Each person donating blood will receive two free tickets to a Royals game. According to the Community Blood Center, donors at any CBC blood drive through July 14 also will be entered in a contest to win a game day Royals batting practice experience package.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, Kansas City Kansas Community College will hold a CBC blood drive. The blood drive will be in Room 2325, Jewell Center, KCKCC, 7250 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas.

From 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 10, the Bonner Springs YMCA will hold a CBC blood drive. The blood drive will be in Classroom A, Bonner Springs YMCA, 2251 S. 138th St., Bonner Springs.

A line of scattered rain showers and thunderstorms was moving through the area this morning from the west, according to the National Weather Service.

Isolated to scattered rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast through the day, the weather service said.

Brief heavy downpours and gusty winds are possible with the heaviest storms.

The Missouri River at Parkville, which includes the Wyandotte County area, is currently below flood stage, holding steady in action stage. The Kansas River at 23rd Street, where the gauge is at Kansas Avenue and the state line, is currently below flood stage, in action stage.

Today, there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 10 a.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 90 with heat index values as high as 99. A south southwest wind of 7 to 10 mph is in the forecast. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected.

Tonight, there is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 4 a.m., with a low of 74, according to the weather service, and a light south wind.

Wednesday, there is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m., with a high near 88, the weather service said. A light and variable wind will become north northwest 6 to 11 mph in the afternoon.

Wednesday night, the low will be around 65 with a northwest wind of 5 mph becoming calm in the evening, according to the weather service.

Thursday, it will be sunny with a high near 85, and a light north wind, the weather service said.

Thursday night, it will be clear with a low of 66, according to the weather service.

Friday, it will be sunny with a high near 90, the weather service said.
