Minor injuries reported after trooper chasing suspect collides with noninvolved SUV

A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper chasing a suspect collided with a noninvolved vehicle at 10:37 a.m. Saturday, June 29, at 29th and Minnesota Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas, resulting in five possible injuries or complaints of pain.

According to a KHP crash log, the trooper’s 2018 Dodge Charger was actively pursuing a vehicle westbound on Minnesota Avenue when it collided with a noninvolved Chevrolet Suburban that was northbound on 29th. The suspect, in another vehicle, fled.

The trooper’s Dodge Charger had its emergency lights on, according to the KHP report.

The trooper, a 24-year-old man from Overland Park, Kansas, had a possible injury or complaint of pain, according to the KHP report.

The driver of the Chevrolet Suburban, a 39-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, man, had a possible injury, the report stated.

A 40-year-old Kansas City, Missouri, man who was a passenger in the Suburban had a possible minor injury and was taken to a hospital, according to the report.

A 15-year-old Kansas City, Missouri boy in the Suburban had a possible minor injury and was taken to the hospital, the report stated.

An 11-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, boy also had a possible minor injury and was taken to a hospital, according to the KHP report.

Chance of rain in forecast; heat advisory continues

This weekend will see very warm and muggy conditions continue, according to the National Weather Service.

A heat advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, and while no heat advisory is in effect for Sunday those planning outdoor activities should still prepare for a warm and muggy day, and take precautions against over exertion in the heat, the weather service stated.

In a heat advisory, outdoor activities should be limited to cooler parts of the day, and those outside should remain vigilant of elderly and young ones. Wear light clothing and stay hydrated, the weather service advised.

The Missouri River at Parkville, which includes the Wyandotte County area, is in minor flood stage. The Kansas River at 23rd Street, where the gauge is at Kansas Avenue and the state line, is below flood stage and in the action stage. The Kansas River has seen a slight rise in the past day.

The forecast for the rest of the week is mostly hot and dry. The forecast for rain has dropped out of the Fourth of July forecast in Wyandotte County, while rain has been added to next Friday’s forecast.

Today, there is a slight, 20 percent, chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 93 with a heat index as high as 103. A south wind of 6 to 8 mph is forecast.

Tonight, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 72 and a south southeast wind of 5 to 8 mph, according to the weather service.

Sunday, it will be sunny with a high of 92 and heat index values as high as 98, with a south wind of 6 to 8 mph, the weather service said.
