Meet-and-greet UG candidate event scheduled tonight

An event to meet candidates for Unified Government commission and Board of Public Utilities has been scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, at the New Bethel Church, 745 Walker Ave., Kansas City, Kansas.

Another candidate event, to meet candidates for the Kansas City, Kansas, Board of Education and the Kansas City Kansas Community College Board of Trustees, is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 27, at the First Baptist Church, 500 Nebraska, Kansas City, Kansas.

The events are sponsored by the Community Health Council, El Centro, Historic Northeast Midtown Association, MainStream Education Foundation, Metro Organization for Racial and Economic Equity, Kansas City, Kansas, Chapter of the NAACP, and NBC Community Development Corp.

Police request public assistance in identifying suspect

The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department has received reports of an incident of lewd and lascivious behavior, and is requesting the public’s assistance in confirming the incident and identifying the suspect.

According to a police spokesman, a report was filed about a young adult male approaching a group of young females and exposing himself on June 22 near South 9th Street and Miami Avenue.

The victims’ ages ranged from 9 to 21 years old, the spokesman stated.

The victims said the suspect was about 5-9, about 120 pounds, had black wavy hair that was ear-length, and was between 20 and 29 years old.

Anyone with information regarding the identity or description of the suspect in this incident was asked to call the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department at 913-596-3000 or the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.

Shooting reported on North 78th

A shooting was reported 8:05 p.m. Monday in the 1200 block of North 78th, according to a Kansas City, Kansas, police spokesman.

The victims drove to the 1900 block of North 79th Terrace, where they called police, according to the spokesman.

One victim was taken to the hospital after being shot in the leg, according to the spokesman.

The spokesman stated that the shooting is under investigation.
