KCK athletes compete in 68th North Relays

Track and field athletes from the Kansas City, Kansas, high schools competed in the 68th annual Shawnee Mission North Relays on Friday.

The KCKPS boys put in a notable performance on the 100-meter dash, taking three of the top six positions.

Top 10 finishers included:

  • Nahshon Houston, Sumner, 2nd, boys long jump
  • Reneaux Jackson, Turner, 3rd, boys javelin
  • Nahshon Houston, Sumner, 3rd, boys 100-meter dash
  • Kevin Jackson, Wyandotte, 5th, boys high jump
  • Yaseen Chapell, Wyandotte, 5th, boys 100-meter dash
  • Cruz Quintana, Washington, 6th, boys 100-meter dash
  • Washington, 9th, boys, 4 x 100-meter relay (Justin Rolland, Micheal Holiday, Antoine Foster, Cruz Quintana)
  • Camille Evans, Schlagle, 10th, girls 100-meter dash

Sun shines on 35th annual Polski Day festival

There was beautiful weather for the 35th annual Polski Day Saturday in Kansas City, Kansas. Floats in the Polski Day parade made their way east on Central Avenue from 12th to 8th, where they then went the wrong way on the one-way 8th Street. This view is from South 8th and Vermont. Polski Day continues with a festival this afternoon at All Saints Church hall and grounds near 8th and Vermont. Food, music and games are included in the festival. Sunflower Showdown in rowing today at Wyandotte County Lake

The University of Kansas will play host for the Sunflower Showdown against Kansas State University in women’s rowing at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wyandotte County Lake at 91st and Leavenworth Road in Kansas City, Kansas.

K-State will defend last year’s win.

On the K-State roster are two students from Wyandotte County, Mikaela Bennett, a junior who attended Bonner Springs High School, and Maya Morrow, a freshman who attended Piper High School.
