Accident on 18th Street Expressway claims life

An accident this morning claimed a life on the 18th Street Expressway near Steele Road in Kansas City, Kansas.

According to a Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department spokesman, a white vehicle was traveling south on 18th Street when it attempted to change lanes. During the lane change the driver, a male, struck another vehicle.

The driver of the white vehicle lost control, the vehicle left the roadway and overturned in the ditch, police stated.

The driver was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, a police spokesman stated. His identity will be withheld until there is positive identification and notification of the family, according to the spokesman.

There were no other passengers in the white vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle was the sole occupant and was not injured, the spokesman stated.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Traffic Support Unit-Critical Collision Response Team is investigating. Anyone with information may call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.

Spanish singing lessons planned
The South Branch Library will hold Spanish singing lessons for children from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at Conference Room B, 3104 Strong Ave. Sandra Zamora is in charge of the program. Children of different ages will learn to cultivate their voices.

Movie to be shown
The Main Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library, 625 Minnesota Ave., will show the movie, “Equalizer 2,” from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, in the second floor auditorium. The movie is rated R.

Alcott Arts Center plans caroling
The Alcott Arts Center plans to sing carols from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Main Lobby of the Alcott building at 180 S. 18th St., Kansas City, Kansas. Those attending are asked to dress warmly. There will be hot chocolate, coffee and holiday cookies. The Alcott Arts Center is not ADA accessible. This is a free event.
