Today’s high in 80s; storms possible Friday

Today, the temperature will rise to a high near 81 with mostly sunny skies, according to the National Weather Service.

Severe storms are possible Friday evening into Friday night, as a cold front moves in, the weather service said. High will drop into the 40s on Saturday. There is a chance of snow and freezing rain early Sunday morning.

It will be windy today, with a south wind of 7 to 16 mph, gusting as high as 24 mph, the weather service said.

Tonight, there is a 20 percent chance of showers after 1 a.m., with a low of 66, according to the weather service. A south wind of 16 to 21 mph may gust as high as 30 mph.

Friday, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m., with a possibility that some storms could be severe, the weather service said. The high will be near 75. A south wind of 21 to 24 mph may gust as high as 33 mph.

Friday night, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m., then a slight chance of showers, according to the weather service. Some of the storms could be severe. The low will be near 41 with a south wind of 18 to 23 mph decreasing to 11 to 16 mph after midnight. Winds may gust as high as 31 mph.

Saturday, there is a 20 percent chance of showers, with a high near 46, and a southwest wind of 13 to 18 mph, gusting to 26 mph, the weather service said.

Saturday night, there is a 30 percent chance of rain showers before midnight, then a chance of rain and snow showers between midnight and 4 a.m., then a chance of snow showers and freezing rain after 4 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 30.

Sunday, there is a 30 percent chance of freezing rain before 7 a.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 44.

Sunday night, the low will be around 27 with mostly clear skies, according to the weather service.

Monday, the high will be near 54 with sunny skies, the weather service said.

KCKCC trustees choose new college president

Kansas City, Kansas, Community College has a new president. He is Dr. Greg Mosier, who comes from Rochester (Minn.) Community and Technical College where he was executive vice president. The college trustees here met briefly Wednesday, April 11, to unanimously approve his contract. Dr. Mosier was a vice president at Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology, Okmulgee and Moberly (Mo.) Area Community College. Dr. Mosier said he was pleased to accept the position.
