Leavenworth Road Association to meet March 13

The Leavenworth Road Association will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, for a potluck dinner and social hour, followed by a meeting at 7 p.m. at the Eisenhower Recreation Center, 2901 N. 72nd St., Kansas City, Kansas.

The guest speaker will be Capt. David Thaxton with the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Department, speaking on current happenings and activities at the Sheriff’s Department.

Those attending the dinner may bring a covered dish. Chicken parmesan casserole will be provided by the Leavenworth Road Association. The meeting is open to visitors.

Cool temperatures Monday, then weather warms up Wednesday

A cool 33 degrees, with a wind chill reading of 23, greeted Wyandotte County at 8 a.m. Monday.

Today’s high will be only 49 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. But temperatures will warm up to 59 degrees on Wednesday.

The cloud cover Monday is one of the causes of cooler temperatures. That changes Wednesday, as temperatures later this week will jump above the normal level, the weather service said.

Wednesday also may bring with it a very high fire danger, with relative humidity dropped to 25 to 30 percent and afternoon winds possibly reaching 15 mph, according to the weather service. Rain chances start to increase on Thursday, lessening the fire concerns.

The return of rain Friday looks to be the start of a more active pattern with precipitation chances occurring every one to two days going into next week, the weather service said.

Today, it will be cloudy through mid-morning, then gradually clearing, with a high today near 49, the weather service said. A north northwest wind will be around 9 mph.

Tonight, the low will be around 28 with partly cloudy skies, and a north northeast wind of 8 mph, according to the weather service.

Tuesday, it will be sunny with a high near 48, the weather service said, and a north wind of 5 to 9 mph.

Tuesday night, the low will be around 25 with a north northwest wind of 5 to 7 mph, becoming calm in the evening, according to the weather service.

Wednesday, it will be sunny with a high near 59 and a light south wind becoming southwest 6 to 11 mph in the morning, the weather service said.

Wednesday night, the low will be around 41 with mostly clear skies, according to the weather service.

Thursday, there will be sunny skies with a high of 68, the weather service said.

Thursday night, there will be a 50 percent chance of showers after 1 a.m., with a low of 47, according to the weather service.

Friday, there will be a 50 percent chance of rain, with a high near 64, the weather service said.

Friday night, there will be a low of 46, according to the weather service.

Saturday, the high will be near 67 with mostly sunny skies, the weather service said.

Saturday night, the low will be around 45 with partly cloudy skies, according to the weather service.

Sunday, there is a 40 percent chance of showers with a high near 65, the weather service said.

Homicide reported near 63rd and Tauromee

Kansas City, Kansas, police responded to an accident call near 63rd and Tauromee on Sunday afternoon, and the death of the driver is being investigated as a homicide, according to police.

Officers arrived at 1:26 p.m. Sunday, March 11, in the 6300 block of Tauromee, a police spokesman stated.

The officers saw a white Chevy Suburban that had struck a tree, and the driver of the vehicle was dead from an apparent gunshot wound, according to the spokesman.

The deceased driver was a man in his 30s, according to police. There was no suspect information available.
