KCKCC Drama Club to present ‘The Flick’

by Kelly Rogge, KCKCC

For its next production, the Kansas City Kansas Community College Drama Club is bringing to life a winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, “The Flick.”

Written by Annie Baker, “The Flick” takes place in a small rundown movie theater in Worcester, Massachusetts. Three underpaid ushers work in the theater, attending to one of the last 35-millineter film projectors in the state. Although the play depicts the mundane tasks and conversation that occurs among the three ushers, it is a funny story of friendship and loyalty in an ever-changing world. Premiering in 2013 Off-Broadway, “The Flick” won the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

“The Flick” is at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 10, 11 and 12 in the KCKCC Performing Arts Theater, 7250 State Ave. There is also a 2:30 p.m. matinee Nov. 13. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and non-KCKCC students. Admission is free to all KCKCC students, faculty and staff with valid identification. Viewer discretion is advised. The play contains strong language and adult situations.

Cast members include – Skyler Re Garcia, Avery; Gary Enrique Bradley-Lopez, Sam; Kinsasha Dydell, Rose and Charles Humphrey, Skylar/The Dreaming Man. Shane Gillaspie, a returning theater major at KCKCC, is the director and Bridget McKenzie, who graduated from KCKCC in Spring 2015, is the co-director.
