Today’s high to be in upper 80s

Today will be sunny with a high near 87, according to the National Weather Service.

Rain may fall far to the north of the Kansas City area tonight, but storms are not expected in Wyandotte County until Friday and Saturday, the weather service said.

Severe storms are possible on Friday and Saturday, as a cold front moves into the Kansas City area, dropping temperatures by about 10 degrees.

The low tonight will be around 67, with a south wind of 5 to 8 mph, the weather service said.

Wednesday, expect sunny skies and a high near 89, according to the weather service. Wednesday night’s low will be around 69.

Thursday, the high will be near 89 with mostly sunny skies, according to the weather service. Thursday night, the low will be around 70.

Friday, expect a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms with a high of 85, the weather service said.

Friday night, there is a 70 percent chance of rain and storms, with a low of 68, according to the weather service.

Saturday, the chance of rain and storms is 30 percent, with a high of 79, the weather service said. Saturday night’s low will be around 59.

Fatal crash reported near 89th and Parallel

A woman in her early 70s died after a crash at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, at 89th and Parallel Parkway, according to a Kansas City, Kan., Police Department spokesman.

Two sport utility vehicles were involved in the crash, according to the spokesman.

Police said a man in the striking vehicle had fled eastbound on foot from the accident scene.

The man was located about a block away and was taken to a hospital and treated for his injuries, police said.

Officers said a tan sport utility vehicle was stopped, westbound on Parallel, waiting to turn into Providence Medical Center.

The second vehicle, a black SUV, also was westbound and rear-ended the stopped car, the police spokesman said.

Two females and one male were in the vehicle, police said. The woman who died later from her injuries was in the back seat of the SUV. The two others in the SUV had minor injuries, police said.

The identity of the woman who died will be released after positive identification and family notification, according to the spokesman.

The Kansas City, Kan., Police Department’s Traffic Support Unit-Critical Collision Response Team is investigating the crash.

KCKCC budget hearing to be Tuesday

Kansas City Kansas Community College will hold a budget hearing at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, at KCKCC, 7250 State Ave., Kansas City, Kan.

The budget hearing will begin at 9 a.m. This year’s proposed budget, as it was published, does not contain a tax increase in the mill levy rate. The budget is scheduled for approval after the public hearing.
