New bakery on Strawberry Hill features cupcakes

by William Crum

The Kansas City Cupcake Co., which opened a new location on Strawberry Hill this week, was started on Dec. 12, 2012, by Greg and Celeste Gant.

Celeste Gant said she always loved to bake, even as a child. First, the couple started a business online, then they bought a commercial kitchen.

“The response was phenomenal,” Gant said. “We would even deliver them locally.”

They sold cupcakes at a shop in the West Bottoms, then they opened a bakery location at 5030 Lamar in Mission, Kan.

“The response was amazing,” Gant said. “A search began for another location; we looked all over.”

They selected Kansas City, Kan., for another location, and the shop at Strawberry Hill at 719 N. 6th St., at 6th and Ann behind City Hall, offers lunch and breakfast items as well as cupcakes.

The business received a small grant from the Unified Government Small Business Fund to help with the move.

I give this place five stars. Cleanness, customer service, and location are all second to none. They are open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
