Jordan Williams, an athletic trainer with a wealth of collegiate experience, is the newest addition to the sports training staff at Kansas City Kansas Community College.

A native of Amarillo, Texas, Williams worked on athletic training staffs at Texas Tech University in Lubbock for four years and two years at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

During those years, he worked with some of the nation’s most prominent coaches – Mike Leech and Clif Kingsbury in football, Pat Knight and Billy Gillespie in basketball and track coach Wes Kittley at Texas Tech. After earning a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sports science from Texas Tech in 2013, Williams spent a year with Kittley as an assistant trainer.

“It was the year we won the Big 12 outdoor track championship,” Williams said.

At Arkansas, Williams worked with Bret Bielma in football, Mike Anderson in basketball and David Van Horn in baseball while earning a Masters of Athletic Training this past May. In addition, Williams worked the summers of 2012 and 2013 with the Seattle Seahawks in their preseason training camp.

A promising football player at Tascosa High School in Amarillo, an injury ended his playing career.

“It was athletic training or medical school and athletic training won out,” Williams said.

At KCKCC, Williams joins an award-winning staff headed by head trainer Rodney Christensen and assistant Kinsey Mascorro.

“I worked with Kinsey at Texas Tech and had met Rodney while I was with the Texas Tech basketball team at the Big 12 tournament,” Williams said. “Also, one of my mentor’s, Larry Munger, was a close acquaintance of Rodney.

“I’m super-excited. It’s a great opportunity to work with a great staff and winning teams. I love the Kansas City area so it’s going to be great for myself and my fiancé, Megan Bark.”

T-Bones shut out in Laredo

Laredo pitcher Barret Loux threw 7 shutout innings, as the Lemurs beat the Kansas City T-Bones 3-0 Wednesday night at Uni-Trade Stadium in Laredo, Texas.

T-Bones pitcher Jared Messer surrendered a solo home run to Cesar Valera, his fourth, in the first inning. Messer followed that with five scoreless innings. The seventh was a different story. Zane Chavez and J.D. Pulfer led off with back-to-back doubles. After Abel Nieves struck out, Jesus Posso doubled to centerfield and scored Chavez and Pulfer, giving the Lemurs a 3-0 lead after seven.

Loux scattered six hits over 7 innings, with two of those hits coming off the bat of Brian Erie. Loux (3-1) also struck out six hitters tonight while walking two. Luis Pollorena got the final six outs for his first save.

Kansas City’s biggest opportunity came in the fifth inning after back-to-back one-out singles by Vladimir Frias and Erie put two on for Sergio Leon. He sent a shot to Alvaro Rondon, who threw out Frias at home. After Tyson Gillies walked, Brett Wiley stepped in and flew out to left field, as the T-Bones stranded the bases loaded.

Messer (3-1) picked up his first loss of the season, as he went 6 1/3 innings, giving up seven hits, walking two and allowing three runs.

Kansas City (23-29) concludes this four-game series against Laredo (31-22) Thursday night at 7:05. All of the action can be heard online at TBonesBaseball.com.
