Man barricades himself at home following domestic disturbance on South 72nd

A man barricaded himself at a home this morning on South 72nd Street in Kansas City, Kan., according to police.

Kansas City, Kan., police responded to a domestic disturbance on Tuesday, July 19, in the 600 block of South 72nd Street.

Officers were told that residents were having an altercation and several gunshots were heard, the spokesman said.

Upon arrival, police officers talked with the homeowner, who was able to escape her residence, a police spokesman said. She told officers that her child’s father began a verbal argument before shooting several rounds inside the home.

There were no injuries, but the 14-year-old child and the suspect were believed to be in the house, police said.

Officers tried for several hours to make contact with anyone inside, and finally, at 6:09 a.m., the juvenile left the residence, unharmed, the spokesman said.

Officers cleared the rest of the residence but the suspect was not located, according to the spokesman.

The incident is under investigation by the police Criminal Investigations Division, which is asking anyone with information to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
