Eagle Days planned Friday and Saturday at Kaw Point Park

Eagle Days are planned from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, and Saturday, Jan. 30, at Kaw Point Park in Kansas City, Kan.

Eagles may be seen from late December until early February. They sometimes perch in trees along the water’s edge. Those who arrives early in the morning may see them flying and fishing.

Those who go eagle-watching are advised to bring binoculars and dress warmly.

Kaw Point Park, at the confluence of the Kansas and Missouri rivers in the Fairfax area of Kansas City, Kan., can be reached from I-70, to the James Street or Fairfax exit No. 423, and then to Fairfax Boulevard. An entrance is through the levee area.

Jury convicts man in child sex abuse case

A Wyandotte County jury on Wednesday afternoon convicted Christian Peterson, 22, of aggravated indecent liberties with a child.

It was in connection with an incident May 23, 2015, at a residence in Kansas City, Kan.

Sentencing will be at 1 p.m. March 11 in Division 5 of the district court.

The prosecutors’ office said because this is a “Jessica’s Law” case, the conviction carries a mandatory life sentence.

Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Tatum prosecuted the case for the state of Kansas.
