Dangerous wind chill, with light snow, in today’s weather forecast

Light to moderate snow fell across the area this morning.

Wyandotte County received a little snow, about an inch or less in places.

The National Weather Service said dangerous wind chill values between 10 and 20 below zero will affect areas north of I-70 this morning.

In Wyandotte County, the temperature was 6 degrees at 10 a.m., with a wind chill of minus 10.

Monday morning, most areas will experience wind chill values between 10 to 20 degrees below zero, the weather service said.

Accumulating snow is again likely on Tuesday with widespread 2 to 4 inches expected, the weather service said.

Today’s high will be near 10, with wind chill values between minus 4 and minus 10, the weather service said. A north northwest wind of 9 to 13 mph is in the forecast.

Tonight, the low will be around 0, with wind chill values between minus 3 and minus 8, and a northwest wind of 3 to 8 mph.

On Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, expect sunny skies and a high near 20, the weather service said. Wind chill values will be between -8 and 2. A calm wind will become south southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Monday night, there will be increasing clouds with a low of 14, the weather service said, and an east southeast wind of 5 to 8 mph.

Tuesday, there is a 60 percent chance of snow, mainly after noon, according to the weather service. The high will be near 29, with an east southeast wind of 9 to 11 mph. There could be a new snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches.

A 50 percent chance of snow is in Tuesday night’s forecast, the weather service said. It will be cloudy with a low of 23.

Wednesday, temperatures will reach a high near 35 with partly sunny skies, according to the weather service. Wednesday night, the low will be 27.

Providence to offer stop smoking classes
Providence Medical Center, 8929 Parallel Parkway, will offer free stop smoking classes beginning Monday, Jan. 18. The program will provide support and individualized planning for those who want to quit smoking. Classes will cover preparations to quit, reasons for quitting, handling stress, understanding withdrawal symptoms, exercising, coping strategies and more. Eagle Days planned Jan. 23-24 at Wyandotte County Lake

The 15th annual Eagle Days event is planned Jan. 23-24 at Wyandotte County Lake. The event will be held at two locations, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 24, at the Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library at the lake; and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, at Davis Hall at the lake. Birds of prey presentations will be held at both locations. Those presentations are at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, and 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Operation Wildlife will have live birds of prey on exhibit, including owls, hawks, falcons and eagles, and will give presentations that talk about the birds and their natural history. There will be crafts for kids, and eagle and waterfowl viewing over the lake. The event is free and open to the public.

Child-adult relationship enrichment program offered
The Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., will offer Child-Adult Relationship Enrichment (C.A.R.E.) in three parts, beginning Jan. 25. The program is offered on three Mondays from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. from Jan. 25 to Feb. 8.
