Eagle Days planned Jan. 23-24 at Wyandotte County Lake
The 15th annual Eagle Days event is planned Jan. 23-24 at Wyandotte County Lake. The event will be held at two locations, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 24, at the Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library at the lake; and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, at Davis Hall at the lake. Birds of prey presentations will be held at both locations. Those presentations are at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, and 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Operation Wildlife will have live birds of prey on exhibit, including owls, hawks, falcons and eagles, and will give presentations that talk about the birds and their natural history. There will be crafts for kids, and eagle and waterfowl viewing over the lake. The event is free and open to the public.
Child-adult relationship enrichment program offered
The Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., will offer Child-Adult Relationship Enrichment (C.A.R.E.) in three parts, beginning Jan. 25. The program is offered on three Mondays from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. from Jan. 25 to Feb. 8. It is presented by Michelle Bertuglia-Haley, MSW, LSCSW, LCSW, Child and Family Therapy Team of Children’s Mercy. Certificates of attendance will be given out at the end of three sessions. Chili cookoff planned Jan. 26
A chili cookoff is planned from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26 at St. John’s Catholic Club, 708 N. 4th St., Kansas City, Kan. Six chefs were invited to compete in this event. There will be light snacks and bowling. The cost is $20. The event is a benefit for Leadership 2000.

Learn ‘The Art of Bonsai’ at Feb. 4 program
“The Art of Bonsai,” a class, will be presented from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at the Wyandotte County Extension Office, Sunflower Room, 1208 N. 79th St., Kansas City, Kan. Dexter White, Wyandotte County Extension master gardener, will present the program. Bonsai is a Japanese art form using miniature trees to grow in containers. Black History and Scholarship Banquet to be Feb. 6
The 24th annual Black History and Scholarship Banquet will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Reardon Convention Center, 500 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan. The keynote speaker will be State Sen. Oletha Faust-Goudeau, D-29th Dist. Sen. Faust-Goudeau was the first black woman to serve in the Kansas Senate. The event begins with a social hour at 5 p.m. Also, there will be an after-dinner dance at 8 p.m. The host of the event will be Cynthia Newsome, KSHB-TV news anchor. Police chief scheduled to speak Feb. 9 at LRA meeting
Kansas City, Kan., Police Chief Terry Zeigler is scheduled to speak at the Feb. 9 meeting of the Leavenworth Road Association. The meeting will start with a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. Feb. 9 followed by the program at 7 p.m. at the Eisenhower Recreation Center, 2901 N. 72nd.
