Hot temperatures ahead today

Temperatures will continue to run above normal for this time of year through the holiday weekend, with some cooling arriving Labor Day, according to the National Weather Service.

With the cooler weather will come the chance for thunderstorms. Storms will begin creeping into the region on Sunday, with more widespread chances arriving by Monday, according to the weather service.

These storms may produce moderate to heavy rainfall but other severe weather threats currently look to remain low, the weather service said.

Today’s forecast is mostly sunny with a high near 91, the weather service said. The south wind will be from 6 to 9 mph.

Saturday’s forecast will be a repeat of Friday’s, with a heat index as high as 97, according to the weather service.

Three injured in accident on I-635

An accident on Thursday evening on I-635 southbound at Metropolitan Avenue injured three persons.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report, at 7:17 p.m. Sept. 3 a Jeep Grand Cherokee was stalled in a lane of traffic on I-635 southbound when it was struck in the rear by a Lexus.

The driver of the Grand Cherokee, a 65-year-old man from Kansas City, Kan., was injured and taken to the hospital, according to the report.

The driver of the Lexus, a 31-year-old man from Raymore, Mo., was injured and taken to the hospital, the report stated.

A passenger in the Lexus, a 3-year-old girl from Raymore, Mo., also was injured and taken to a hospital, according to the report.
